PREFACE
This book has been written to dispel the rumours, lies and misconceptions held against the Catholic Church worldwide. Some of the misconceptions about the Catholic Church are products of heresy, apostasy, and schism. Despite the fact that the Catholic Church is an embodiment of success in Christianity, some critics still see the Church as an enigma, making it the most controversial religious concept in the world. The controversies generated about the Catholic Church have raised a lot of dust, unwarranted, within Christendom and the world in general.

This book attempts to give an insight on the fallacy of certain misconceptions about the Catholic Church whilst laying forth the true position of things. It is meant for reading and proper understanding of the true nature of the Catholic Church as well as what she upholds and teaches. It is designed to lift the mask off the minds of people who see the Catholic Church as a disaster instead of the embodiment of truth about Jesus Christ and the followership which she truly represents in the world.

The misconceptions covered in this book may not be all-encompassing owing to the dynamic nature of the false accusations often leveled on the Catholic Church; however, twenty-seven most common misconceptions about the Catholic Church have been raised and carefully analyzed.

Finally, in writing this book, I have depended to some extent on literature and resource materials which are difficult to come by, and to a large extent on inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

INTRODUCTION

With a population over one billion (1,121,516,000) 25 million of which are in Nigeria,[1] the Catholic Church is the world’s largest religious body. It is also Christianity’s oldest and more organized church. Despite the fact that the Catholic Church is an embodiment of success in Christianity, some critics still see the church as an enigma, making it the most controversial religious concept in the world. The controversies about the Catholic Church have raised a lot of dust, unwarranted, within Christendom and the world in general.

It would not be out of place to state here that, the Catholic Church has endured controversies and criticisms from certain quarters right from the 9th Century to date. However, each heresy, schism, and apostasy was dealt with according to the dictates of the scripture and teachings of Our Lord Jesus Christ, under whose authority and commands the Catholic Church came into being.

The following are twenty-seven (27) most common misconceptions about the Catholic Church; each misconception is followed by answers revealing the actual position of things in the Catholic Church. The thirty-three misconceptions were selected from a number of questions and views obtained from the general public in the course of the research leading to this book. The answers, however, are as given by Priests, Catholic Research sources such as libraries and websites, and, other authorities of the Catholic Church within and outside Nigeria.

It must be stated that this book is not a platform for debate and should not serve as a basis for one. It is meant for reading and proper understanding of the true nature of the Catholic Church. It is meant to lift the mask off the minds of people who see the Catholic Church as a disaster instead of the embodiment of Christ’s followership which it truly is.
