Twenty-Five Most Common Misconceptions About The Catholic Church
PREFACE
This book is written to dispel the rumours, lies, and misconceptions held against the Catholic Church worldwide. Some or all of the misconceptions about the Catholic Church are products of heresy, apostasy, and schism. With a population of 1,121,516,000 (The World Almanac and Book of Facts 2010), 25 million of which are in Nigeria, the Catholic Church is the world’s largest religious body. It is also Christianity’s oldest and more organized church. Despite the fact that the Catholic Church is an embodiment of success in Christianity, some critics still see it as an enigma, making it the most controversial religious concept in the world. The controversies about the Catholic Church have raised a lot of dust, unwarranted, within Christendom and the world in general.
Heresy started as a result of man’s incorruptible search for answers that have no questions. And as modernism took root in the conscience of man through discoveries in philosophy and physics, more and more heretics were made. While apostasy simply means the total abandonment of the faith of Christ by embracing another religion, schism is the voluntary separation of one’s self from the unity of the church. This book attempts to give an insight on the fallacy of certain misconceptions about the Catholic Church whilst laying forth the true position of things. It is meant for reading and proper understanding of the true nature of the Catholic Church as well as what she upholds and teaches. It is designed to lift the mask off the minds of people who see the Catholic Church as a disaster instead of the embodiment of truth about Jesus Christ and the followership which she truly represents in the world.
The misconceptions covered in this book may not be all-encompassing owing to the dynamic nature of the false accusations often leveled on the Catholic Church; however, twenty five most common misconceptions about the Catholic Church have been raised and carefully analyzed. A special feature of the book, aside the twenty five most common misconceptions, is the inclusion of a section on the essential ingredients of the Catholic Church. Also included in this book is the ninety-five Theses (Errors) written by Rev. Martin Luther followed by the response to the errors (Bull of Pope Leo in 1520). The list of Popes and their year of reign from Apostle Peter to date is also contained in this book.
Finally, in writing this book, I have depended to some extent on literature and resource materials which are difficult to come by, and to a large extent on the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
