VAMPIRES: Myth Or Reality???
VAMPIRES: Myth or Reality???
Vampires are beings who subsist by feeding on blood of living creatures (especially human blood). A Vampire is either born so, or, a clean and straight human made vampire by another vampire.
Although vampiric entities have been recorded in many cultures and in spite of speculation by literary historian Brian Frost that the "belief in vampires and bloodsucking demons is as old as man himself", and may go back to "prehistoric times", the term vampire was not popularized until the early 18th century, after an influx of vampire superstition into Western Europe from areas where vampire legends were frequent, such as the Balkans and Eastern Europe, although local variants were also known by different names, such as vrykolakas in Greece and strigoi in Romania. This increased level of vampire superstition in Europe led to mass hysteria and in some cases resulted in corpses actually being staked and people being accused of vampirism.
Vampirism is widely believed to be a myth, but does it really constitute a mythology or folklore?
The following are some of the mythological characteristics of the vampire:
1. Vampires Sleep all Day and operate at night
2. Contact with the Sun or Ultraviolet light (slightest amount) burns the vampire alive.
3. Vampires can fly… they also can jump faster and more precise than humans.
4. Vampires can turn into different types of night animals such as bat, owl, wolf and cat.
5. Vampires are afraid of the Christian Cross… they also hate garlic.
6. Vampires have a very cold body temperature which they have powers to regulate… they also sleep in coffins.
7. Some vampires can eat human food but majority of them cannot.
8. Female vampires who get pregnant and put to bed do not experience birth pangs.
9. Vampires have the ability to manipulate psychic energy.
10. Vampires have fangs and they live underground.
Okay… what do you guys think? Is it just a folklore, mythology or reality? Please Post your comments. Thanks.
